Game Culture – a starter for 1

January 30, 2008

In readiness for the Game Culture option of the course I’ve been trying to get into the swing of things and I’ve found Convergence, The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies from SageJournals (type in convergence). The September 2007 issue has several interesting and useful articles for a first foray into gaming and an especially good one (Let Me Take You To The Movies) with an introduction to play. A hardcopy is available at the UWE library.

Who says Games are not art?

Found this on Wired. The game Halo 3 has an editor called ‘Forge’ that allows you to add to the Halo 3 maps and drop ammunition etc. which you can then use when you play the game next time.

Here’s an example of someone using it creatively/artistically…

The Green Pixel

November 7, 2007

A nice tongue in cheek look at the green side of gaming I came across here

Okami on PS2 is worth looking at to see the sumi-e-inspired artwork – an artistic, innovative adventure.

Clover Studios, the company who created it folded/was folded almost the day it was released.

There’s a good review in Neo magazine, issue 30, April ‘07.

Kotaku report there’s a Wii port coming.
