Blog and Website worth a look from a wider perspective of the course, Anything Ballardian always piques my interest.

In readiness for the Game Culture option of the course I’ve been trying to get into the swing of things and I’ve found Convergence, The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies from SageJournals (type in convergence). The September 2007 issue has several interesting and useful articles for a first foray into gaming and an especially good one (Let Me Take You To The Movies) with an introduction to play. A hardcopy is available at the UWE library.

I found this while researching for my essay, and thought how beautifully simple it is as an interface, and very beautiful photographs too.

Over at the BBC

Christmas was coming
Geese were clapping on weight like there was no tomorrow
And hats were full of assorted coinage from all the four corners of the globe.
It mattered not that one had neither low denomination currency
Nor the lowest denomination, currently in circulation and legal tender itself
For God in his heaven would shower his beneficence, like the snow that would surely fall
On all.

With next term/semester/whatever coming up in the new year (but do enjoy Christmas first!) I thought I’d draw our collective attentions to thew ARGNet which can act as a jump-point for Alternate Reality Gaming. It may prove useful when in the full throes of the chosen module…

Nintendo’s DS is the ‘handheld’ arm of its domination of the gaming industry at present and with ‘Braintraining’ and other ‘Casual/Family/other than hardcore games’ at every turn of a webpage it’s great to see something a little bit different. There is a bit about plot, what’s looked for in a game and its development.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is an interactive novel and the article about its creation is worth a look.
